Concrete Spaces - Sodecco. 2014
22x30 cm
Fine Art Photo Rag Hahnemühle 315g (Glossy - Epson Printer) - Or similar

Concrete Space is a visual documentation on the role and impact of the disappearance of public spaces in Beirut. The city has been under erratic reconstruction while still trying to heal from its wounds and traumatic past. Public spaces are disappearing, being replaced by skyscrapers, malls and westernized scenery, which borders with the kitsch and fabricated stages. I found these places fascinating, especially since they are constantly echoing with the torn city.
Born in 1983, Julien Bonnin is a French photographer living in Marseille and working between France, the UK and the MENA region. During his career he has shaped his practice around the clash between traditional documentary and alternative narratives, ranging from video or site based installations. His recent works focus on archives, representations of Orientalism and nostalgia, especially through the dissimination of myths and intimate stories carried by Diasporas.
